ROOFLESS SUMMARY:
"Roofless" is a coming of age story of two African-American young men, SCOPE who is born to inspire & MARQUEE, born with a voice that can affect generational change, each struggling to deal with legacies left them by their absent fathers. Cliches of gangsta dramas are script-flipped as this innovative musical unfolds on the rooftops above the streets.

We enter the story 10 years after its tragic end in 2004 - the night that Marquee died of a gunshot wound, mere moments after turning 18.  Unable to prevent the tragedy, Scope's ability to inspire others was also laid to rest beside the body of his homie on that same pitch-black night.   Marquee, who has been in limbo for 10 years, forced to revisit and re-experience his own death each year, has his first run-in with The Devil, a sexy deal-maker who was apparently well-acquainted with Marquee's father.  As Marquee attempts to pry information from her about the rules of his purgatory, a hint of desperation in her otherwise chill demeanor lets him know that he might have the ability to right the wrongs set in motion by the choices he made in his short lifetime.  When he hears the voice of a talented 10-year-old aspiring emcee emerge from from the void, Marquee realizes that it is Scope's own son, who is apparently the channel he can go through to set things right again.  Seeing that her handiwork might be undone, she makes a high-stakes wager with Marquee, giving him only 24 hours to set things right again or relinquish his soul to her once and for all.

Marquee appears to Lil Man and begins to unpack the difficult history that his father Scope refuses to talk about: Marquee's lifelong friendship with Scope, the Rooftop Sanctuary that Scope built, the quirky crew of Roofheadz who were drawn to the inspirational, above-the-fray locale, Scope's one true soulmate Sela, and the events that led up to Marquee's tragic death.  Through the course of the show Lil Man listens, transfixed, as his own history is revealed to him, his true legacy as one of the "Roofless."
